On Christmas Eve 2011, I was baking in anticipation of guests arriving at my house. I took a cookie sheet out of the oven and placed it on the stove top to cool. I left the room, and then my niece inadvertently turned on a burner under the cookie sheet, which she noticed later and turned off just before I reentered the kitchen. Not knowing this had happened, I picked up the hot cookie sheet with my bare hand.
I considered running the hand under cold water, but I decided not to. I didn’t want mere relief—I wanted and expected a quick and complete healing. I was confident that God could and would heal me, so I turned all my attention to God in prayer.
My niece saw what had happened and asked, “Aren’t you going to run your hand under cold water?” I was so grateful for her loving care. I simply said no, and thanked her. I knew that prayer is the most powerful force on the planet, so relying on God through Christian Science was the best way to care for myself.
