Class instruction—a bountiful source of wisdom

From the July 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Class instruction in Christian Science changes our perspective from the limited to the unlimited—or unconditional, divine Love—point of view. It is so refreshing and life-transforming! Taking class immerses us in the beauty and the light of Love. Based on the chapter “Recapitulation” in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, this two-week course imparts the Science of Love—a rock-solid foundation for life. And the yearly association meetings nurture that foundation.

The teachings I received from class instruction, and my commitment to a branch church about the same time, fortified my resolve to abstain from drinking alcohol with my colleagues at birthday parties. At the time I was a secretary for the headquarters of a metallurgical company in Paris, France, and some colleagues were not pleased with my decision. However, I strove to love more, without any self-righteous indignation toward them. My desire was to love God with all my heart, and I was determined to love everyone, by seeing only the image of Love.

Filled with the certainty of Love’s ever-presence, I was undisturbed when one of my colleagues became outraged about my decision, insulted me, and threw the papers on my desk all over the floor. This only made me even more desirous to bring healing, and I refused to be offended by his actions.
