When I was pregnant with my first child, I prayed daily with a Christian Science practitioner to prepare myself for the child’s arrival. This served me well on many occasions.
Early in the pregnancy my midwife did a blood test to check my iron levels, which tested normal. But as the delivery date approached, she did another test, which showed my iron levels had dropped significantly. My midwife said if they didn’t improve, she would have to recommend that delivery take place at a hospital, instead of at home as my husband and I were hoping. She also wanted me to start taking supplements right away to boost my iron levels.
She was aware that I’m a Christian Scientist, and I asked if I could have time to pray about the condition. She said she could give me a week, but then, because of my imminent due date, I’d have to take the supplements and hope they would work in time.
