Last year our beloved cat became very sick. My wife and I had been praying for our cat, but at a family member’s insistence, one day we brought him to a veterinarian’s office, where he was diagnosed as having cancer.
At this point, we felt we needed to pray more deeply. The thought came to us to call a certain Christian Science practitioner and request treatment for our cat. She lovingly agreed to pray for him.
The practitioner reminded us daily of important things regarding healing—such as we weren’t actually praying to fix matter, but to witness the cat’s perfection as God’s spiritual idea. During this time, we looked beyond the picture of disease and constantly affirmed his perfection. Our spirits began to be lifted up, and there was an atmosphere of calm in the house. The cat’s healing was definitely progressing; he seemed to be content in this difficult situation and even started to get back into purring for us.
