Years ago my weekly schedule included several part-time jobs, and each of them involved physically demanding tasks. Near the end of one workday, I accidentally knocked over a bucket of soapy water, and while cleaning up the spill, I slipped and fell onto the wet tile floor. Briefly, it was hard for me to catch my breath. The pain was intense.
I have experienced many healings exclusively through prayer, and so instead of thinking about the fall, I prayed; I affirmed that God is always present and the only power. I recalled a comforting psalm from Scripture (Psalm 91) that reminds us of the protection and safety God provides for all His children. It begins, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” While keeping this foremost in my thoughts, I finished my task.
That evening, I read and studied spiritual truths about God and man in the Bible, and in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These books reveal man’s true selfhood as spiritual, and therefore painless, forever at one with God. They also give us a better understanding of God, and of man’s inseparable relation to Him.
