Vision restored

From the June 2017 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am so grateful to have Christian Science in my life. Through the years I have had many healings, ranging from the resolution of relationship problems to the healing of physical challenges, and the spiritual lessons I’ve learned have shown me over and over again that I can trust God with any challenge, large or small.

About a year and a half ago, for instance, I had a problem with one of my eyes. In a short period of time I was totally blind in that eye. At the same time, I was in a situation where I felt responsible for resolving a difficult work-related issue, which I was feeling very discouraged and angry about. I knew that harboring these feelings wasn’t right, and it certainly wasn’t in line with Christian Science teaching.

I contacted a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me, and he assured me that healing was possible. He also gave my prayers the right focus: We were praying, not to fix matter, but to “see” clearly. And what I needed to see was the spiritual reality—that “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). He made me in His image and likeness, spiritual and perfect, and nothing could change that fact.
