Why ...?

I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals. The first was The Christian Science Journal, designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth; the second I entitled Sentinel, intended to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love; the third, Der Herold der Christian Science, to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth; the next I named Monitor, to spread undivided the Science that operates unspent. The object of the Monitor is to injure no man, but to bless all mankind.

—Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353

Why record?

From the March 2018 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dating back to the beginning of 2013, every issue of the Journal and Sentinel has an audio edition available to subscribers of JSH-Online.com. And last fall, we began providing audio to articles on the public pages of each of the four Herald websites. Having audio for Herald content has been cherished as an important way “to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth.” In fact, we’ve heard of Christian Science being shared by way of the audio recordings.

The audio edition of the periodicals is a blessing in a variety of ways. For those in need of healing, and perhaps temporarily unable to read, listening to an article or testimony can be comforting and uplifting. Also, “on-the-go” listening can inspire daily activity with Christian Science content.

For the most part, articles, testimonies, poems, and editorials published in English in the magazines are recorded by their authors. Being able to hear the heart of the authors as they share their ideas and experiences with their unique depth of understanding, great love for Christian Science, and gratitude for God brings unique value to the audio editions. While some articles, especially Herald articles, may not be recorded by the authors, the ability of listeners to hear a voice recording in their own language from one who loves the ideas and the audience can have a definite healing impact on their heart.
