I have experienced healing through Christian Science many times over the years, so when I began to experience pain in one of my legs, I turned to God in prayer to help me overcome it. When I didn’t see progress, I realized that I had accepted the false belief that I was a struggling mortal, and I had been giving power to the problem. Furthermore, I was focused on asking God to heal a physical problem, whereas I knew that I needed to see that the problem didn’t have reality in God and to keep my attention on God. I struggled to do this. Meanwhile, the pain continued, and eventually I found it difficult to walk.
After a few days passed, I contacted a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and she prayed for me for a couple of days. During this time, she guided me to many spiritual truths that we learn about in Christian Science. She reminded me of my spiritual nature and perfection as God’s child by sharing a line from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “. . . Love is reflected in love” (p. 17). This is the spiritual interpretation of the line from the Lord’s Prayer where Christ Jesus said, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12).
This seemed so appropriate, as I felt I had been mistreated before, and I was resentful. I prayed to see through the vision of pure love. I knew that’s the only thing that could be expressed, as Love (God) cannot see anything but love, since “God is love” (I John 4:8), and each of us naturally reflects God, Love. I prayed to better understand forgiveness and to love, and in doing so, I let go of the resentment.
