About a year ago, I woke up one night feeling intense pain in my knee, and I was unable to bend it in the slightest. I could not put any weight on my right foot, and I had to use a walking stick just to move a short distance within the bedroom.
I became very alarmed about this sudden aggressive physical condition. I also felt very lonely, and this really impelled me to pray to God unreservedly. I remembered that Christ Jesus once said, “The Father hath not left me alone” (John 8:29). The word alone is literally from the words all and one, “all one.” I affirmed I am one with God because man is God’s reflection, one with Him. I can never be outside of His love and tender care.
Whenever I felt intense pain and couldn’t sleep, I decided to sing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. This helped me begin to feel God’s loving presence around me. The first verse of Hymn 139 was especially helpful:
