As one of her students recalled, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, once explained how to heal instantaneously this way: “I will tell you the way to do it. It is to love! Just live love—be it—love, love, love. Do not know anything but Love. Be all love. There is nothing else. That will do the work. It will heal everything; it will raise the dead. Be nothing but love” (We Knew Mary Baker Eddy, Expanded Edition, Vol. I, pp. 296–297).
This “Love” to know all about is God, as the Bible tells us “God is love” (I John 4:16). Mrs. Eddy describes the Love that is God in many ways, such as “the ever-present Love filling all space” (Message to The Mother Church for 1900, p. 1) and the “gentle presence, peace and joy and power” (Poems, p. 4).
Some decades ago when I was teaching at a university in the People’s Republic of China, I was able to put those words about the power of Love into action when I injured my leg. Through living love, being love, and knowing only God’s love, I was not only healed of the leg injury but also healed of long-standing astigmatism.
