Christ Jesus instructed his followers, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). And Mary Baker Eddy states, “The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 113).
These instructions are not to be taken lightly. Mrs. Eddy also writes, “I make strong demands on love, call for active witnesses to prove it, and noble sacrifices and grand achievements as its results” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 250).
