Lately, I have been praying with this instruction that Mary Baker Eddy gives: “The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged” (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 22). She dealt with everything that came to her that needed to be expunged, through prayer. Until recently, I hadn’t realized just how important her guidance on this topic is.
Many years ago, I was in a fitness class and severely injured my back on one of the machines. I couldn’t walk out of that class without major pain, and had to get a doctor’s signature to cancel the season pass that I’d paid for.
I had a Christian Science friend who was married to a doctor, and because he knew somewhat about Christian Science, I went to him for the required signature. He examined me, watched me walk, and wanted me to go for more tests, as he felt I was in serious trouble. I declined, and told him that I already had a Christian Science practitioner praying for me, and that I had always relied on Christian Science for healing. I knew this too could be healed. He was very loving and kind, but I know it was hard for him to understand my decision not to go forward with medical treatment, given his grave predictions.
