Some of the innate abilities that have come to light through my Christian Science practice are getting still to listen for God’s loving guidance and then being obedient to it. That’s when I do my best. Here’s a modest but joyful example, which also shows God’s ever-present goodness.
One day I headed to the store to find two small boxes for a special project. I needed sturdy ones four inches by six inches. I felt sure our supermarket would have them, so I went there. As I was driving by a Home Depot, I heard a gentle voice within my thought say, “Stop here.” I thought, “I don’t need anything from Home Depot; I must get to the supermarket.” I heard the gentle thought again, “Stop here.”
I went into the Home Depot and started walking past aisles. I kept listening, knowing I was being guided. As I was walking by the third aisle, I saw a young sales clerk taking items out of a small sturdy box. I walked up to her and said, “If you don’t need that box, I would love to have it.” She replied, “Sure, here you are.” She saw another small box in her cart and asked if I would like that one, too. They were both four inches by six inches.
