When my wife and I emigrated from South Africa to New Zealand in 2003, we had meager financial resources. We prayed to see that God was the true, unlimited source of our supply. The second verse of Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal reassured us. It begins with these lines:
Wherever He may guide me,
No want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me,
And nothing can I lack.
(Anna L. Waring)
The first year in our new country was full of blessings, and we had much to be grateful for. However, when it came time for us to think about returning to South Africa for our annual Christian Science students’ association meeting, we sat down together one evening and worked out the likely cost of the trip, and it looked impossible for us to go.
