For a moment, the world seems to pause;
and a serene and peaceful radiance
caresses our surroundings.
It is as if peace, so yearned for,
has become tangible.
For a moment, the world
truly stands still.
All because, once,
two thousand years ago,
a baby was born
and the divine message came to earth:
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.” 1
And even though humanity continues its quest
to find something it has already received,
the Christ, the God-sent message of peace,
is always present.
Spanning the weight of the centuries,
it continues to say
in a tender and compassionate way
that all languages understand,
that dispels the clouds of sadness,
of sickness, of helplessness, of fear:
“Lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world.” 2
