Beginning in 2023, my daughter and I spent almost a year planning a hiking trip to Switzerland. But a week before our departure I began experiencing pain in my back and abdomen. I thought it might just be some strained muscles, but it increased.
The day before our departure I was very fearful, so I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. She left me with these two quotes from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science: “Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress” (p. 170) and “Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical” (p. 114).
I pondered the effect of that one cause, God, and lifted my thought to affirm that Life is Spirit, God; it is not material. Although I was still feeling some fear, I had been healed of other illnesses through Christian Science and trusted that prayer would be effective in this situation, too. I knew that God would be guiding both the practitioner and me each day.
