Of Good Report

From insults to handshakes

From the December 2025 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was a Saturday night in our usually quiet neighborhood when my wife and I heard several kids yelling, laughing, and having fun in our front yard.

The yard has a tire swing that hangs by a rope from a huge 100-year-old silver maple tree. Our kids loved swinging on it when they were younger. Since they’ve grown and moved out, we had sometimes allowed neighborhood kids to use it.

Through the years, however, the rope became old and frayed. It would be hard to go the 30 feet up to replace it, so for safety reasons, we wrapped the tire in red danger tape with signs asking people not to swing on it.
