Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

"CHRISTIAN SCIENCE IS ABSOLUTE"

Concerning the chapter "Recapitulation" in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy declares ( p. 465 ), "Absolute Christian Science pervades its statements, to elucidate scientific metaphysics.

THE NEEDLESSNESS OF LACK

In a world which most Christian people believe to have been created by a just and good God, it is anomalous that so many millions of its inhabitants should be in a constant state of lack—lack of health, lack of profitable employment, lack of adequate means for normal subsistence. Many there are who believe that God knows and permits these conditions, and that no one can be quite sure, while inhabiting this earth, of being immune from one or more of them.

MENTAL PURIFICATION

Most of us are familiar with the sober, yet impressive description, given in the first three Gospels, of the Master's healing of the "man full of leprosy. " This man, because of the dread disease, was debarred from all social contact with his fellow beings and shunned by all.

THE FULLNESS OF LIFE

One of the desires of the human heart is for a fuller, a more complete and abundant sense of life. This is a natural, righteous desire, and should have, must have, its rightful fulfillment.

CHURCH BUILDING

Before we can build outwardly, we must build in thought, and with Mind's own materials. Our building begins where we are mentally; and we build rightly with our highest, holiest thoughts.

THE HYMNAL OF THE JEWISH CHURCH

The book of Psalms, consisting as it does of one hundred and fifty songs used in the homes of the Hebrews and in their places of worship, may justly be described as "The Hymnal of the Jewish Church," especially since the Hebrew name of the book is tehillim — "hymns. " The book itself and other early records inform us as to certain special occasions on which particular Psalms were used.

CONTINUOUS RESURRECTION

Students of Christian Science, trusting Love's healing touch to free them from bondage to materiality, find the true sense of resurrection in the proportion that human belief in and reliance upon material ways and means yield to the understanding of good alone as real. On page 593 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines "resurrection" as "spiritualization of thought; a new and higher idea of immortality, or spiritual existence; material belief yielding to spiritual understanding.

SUPPLY

In the estimation of the majority, supply seldom involves considerations other than of money and material possessions. To be well supplied, they think, is to own property, securities, a bank account; to be endowed with income, dividends, interest.

MAN REFLECTS THE DIVINE NATURE

A child who had been reared in the comforting teaching of Christian Science became very ill. A practitioner was called to help, but the little one did not respond to treatment at once.

CONFIDENT TRANQUILLITY

At a time when the people were turning away from God and seeking help from Egypt, the prophet Isaiah voiced the promise, "Thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. " These words have brought comfort and courage to many a troubled heart throughout the centuries since they were spoken to the children of Israel, for to turn to God in time of seeming bewilderment and trouble is the only definite way whereby to find release.
