Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

MRS. EDDY AS A TEACHER

Before she discovered Christian Science and began to teach this subject, Mary Baker Eddy had experience as a teacher of other subjects. Besides conducting an infants' school for a short time, she had taught frequently or regularly in a Congregational Sunday School, and she had taught occasionally in the place of absent teachers in an academy, the New Hampshire Conference Seminary.

DIVINE ACTIVITY

The world at large seems to be suffering from the belief that useful, progressive activity has lapsed into a negative state of stagnation, thwarted careers, unrewarded endeavors. This problem is regarded by many as well-nigh impossible to solve, and is held steadily before the world's gaze by the constant repetition of such aggressive terms as "depression," "recession," "layoffs," "shutdowns," and the like.

"THE SIMPLICITY THAT IS IN CHRIST"

Oftentimes the very simplicity of the truth of being appears a stumbling block to men, so accustomed have they become to having their vision blurred in the dusty atmosphere of material codes and theories. Simplicity, as a quality which in one sense means "freedom from subtlety or abstruseness;.

CHRIST-HEALING

An inspiring picture is given us in the fourth chapter of Luke's Gospel, where it is recorded of Jesus: "Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. " Can we not catch the vision of the Master as he waits patiently while the multitude seeks his services in healing the sick and suffering? It does not take a great stretch of the imagination to see the weary ones as they approach the Teacher, or to visualize the transforming joy diffusing their countenances as they leave after receiving their healing.

REDEEMING HUMAN SOCIETY

Throughout history the human mind has repeatedly made the mistake of thinking of the partial good achieved as an end in itself. It has tried to erect into systems various forms of improved belief, hoping thereby to achieve a permanent basis of happiness for mankind.

"THE DIVINE COMPLETENESS"

It has been the agelong prayer of earnest men and women that the truth about God and His creation might be revealed. A sense of incompleteness has arisen because men have believed themselves to be separated from God.

OBEDIENCE

Christ Jesus said to his disciples, "If ye love me, keep my commandments. " And in reply to the lawyer's question concerning "the great commandment in the law," Jesus replied: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

"JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST"

In his epistle to the Romans the Apostle Paul makes the following significant statement: "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ. " Christ Jesus on different occasions referred to God as "my Father," "your Father," and "our Father.

BEING "INSTANT IN PRAYER"

The student of Christian Science knows he must keep constant watch that nothing unfit for development be permitted to lodge in his consciousness. He is aware that the Science of Christianity, discovered by Mary Baker Eddy, is valuable not only as a dependable cure for ills of all sorts, but also as a preventive of discord.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

A Journey involves a starting point, a route, and a destination. The expectant traveler considers maps and guidebooks, and envisions a desired goal.
