"THIS SPIRITUAL AND PROFOUND PATHOLOGY"

From the May 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The spiritual pathology of Christian Science is wholly unlike that of material pathology. Describing it. Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 157): "Christian Science impresses the entire corporeality,— namely, mind and body,—and brings out the proof that Life is continuous and harmonious. Science both neutralizes error and destroys it. Mankind is the better for this spiritual and profound pathology."

In reference to the fact that in all periods of the world's history "the Christ, as the spiritual idea,—the reflection of God," has appeared in some degree to those whose thought was spiritually clear enough to receive it, Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 333), "Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love."

The Psalmist, singing of God's providence, declares that Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt, "and there was not one feeble person among their tribes." Their spiritually-minded leader taught them in the wilderness to adhere to the worship of the one God, Spirit.
