Poems

DAY BY DAY

From the May 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Mind that hitherto has planned my footsteps,
Telling me where to go and what to do,
Will still impart intelligence sufficient
To guide me safely all my journey through.

In Soul I find a sweet and calm assurance
Of Love's protecting care throughout the day.
Truth ever stands a wise and faithful mentor
To show each hidden danger in the way.

Spirit that yesterday gave food and shelter,
And gives today the strength to do and dare,
Tomorrow's hope will bring to right fulfillment,
And add a gift I long in love to share.

God through the years has given true ideas
Which clothe me here and now with joy and peace,
And will remain to greet each dawning morrow,
And bring to grief and pain a sure surcease.

Oh, Father, Thou art constantly unfolding
The blessings promised in Thy holy Word.
Still keep me free from doubt, and ever knowing
That when I ask, in faith, my prayer is heard.
