Letters to the Editor
Article leads to action I decided to subscribe to The Christian Science Monitor’ s online Daily News Briefing (DNB) after reading February’s article “ ‘To lighten mankind’ ” by Rosalie Dunbar, and am delighted that my minimum daily requirement for keeping “abreast of the times” is now being met. After subscribing I came across this previously unfamiliar sentence by Mary Baker Eddy in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany: “My desire is that every Christian Scientist, and as many others as possible, subscribe for and read our daily newspaper” ( p.
‘Love it!’ I have been a subscriber of the periodicals since the fall of 1959. I just have to tell you how much I love the new size of the Journal.
Readers respond to the Journal’ s redesign I love the newly designed Journal —very professional. In the interest of readability, however, many readers are telling me that they are having trouble reading it because the print is too light (it is considerably lighter than it was before the redesign).
Overwhelmed no more For about a year, I had some problems with reading all the issues of the Journal, the Sentinel, and the French edition of The Herald of Christian Science. I felt overwhelmed by this mountain of magazines.
'Good articles!' Thank you for the November issue! I loved the conversation with David Haughton and especially appreciated what he said about mental malpractice not being just people holding bad thoughts about us. His comments on pondering reminded me of the wonderful article “ My ‘cover to cover’ project ” by Alan Pate in the Sentinel of October 22.
'One pure white tile' I’m writing to thank the Journal for publishing James Spencer’s article called “ The Christian Science Nurse ” in the August issue. I especially liked the example of the “one pure white tile.
Make a joyful noise The September Journal is full of wonderful articles and updates for which I am grateful. Rosalie Dunbar’s article on the upcoming new Christian Science Hymnal Supplement is very exciting.
Worldwide outreach Fighting back tears of joy after reading Nathan Smith’s article, “ The Christian Science Board of Directors Goes to Africa ” in the August issue, I must express my immense respect for the members of the Board and their outreach to members of The Mother Church worldwide. I am sure Christian Scientists in Africa gained as much, or more, from the visit as did those in Australia when the Board visited this country several years ago.
A cup of cold water Thank you and the contributors to “Insights” and to all the Journal! As I was filling the hummingbird feeder, an angel message lifted thought higher than the motive to attract hummers to our home and to aid them in their journey, to the phrase about giving a cup of cold water in His name. A cup of cold water in their journey cared for by God, and a trust that God will attract all good to our home.
Problems and knots Thank you for Margaret Rogers’s editorial “ Except God ” in the July 2012 Journal. Rogers makes the point that with divine power, difficult world problems can be untied by starting and continuing with prayer.
