Testimonies of Healing
We read in the Preface to our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, these words ( p. vii ): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.
I have been a student of Christian Science for about seven years. At first I felt very much prejudiced against it, since it was so different from the usual way of believing in a corporeal God, which I had been taught all my life.
From a heart filled with gratitude to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, and with a prayerful desire to help those who may be discouraged over a slow healing, I give the following testimony. Some years ago a malignant growth started in my throat, causing an obstruction so large that it was almost impossible to eat solid food.
In 1918, I learned of Christian Science. I was in such a state of mental depression that life was a great burden to me.
Christian Science is the greatest blessing which has come into my life. In the past seven years, with the exception of having a doctor in attendance at the birth of our three children, along with a practitioner's help at two of the births, God has been our only physician and Christian Science our only medicine.
Having been a recipient of the manifold blessings of Christian Science for over twenty years, I feel the least I can do by way of expressing my gratitude is to offer the following testimony of Christian healing. In 1918, I was healed of a combination of so-called Spanish influenza, double pneumonia, and other complications.
I had the great blessing to be led to Christian Science eleven years ago. I was a physical wreck.
I wish to thank God for Christian Science, thank Him with all my heart for all the good, all the blessings which my family and I have already received through this teaching. About seven years ago a kind lady, who knew how we suffered from illness, led me to Christian Science.
When I turned to Christian Science for help, I was in what appeared to be a hopeless condition, being completely bedridden and entirely helpless. I was not able to move or turn myself at all, and suffered great pain.
Christian Science came to me at a time of great physical and mental need; and, as a result, my whole outlook on life has been changed to a brighter prospect in every direction. In place of sickness and weakness, health and strength are being demonstrated; in place of a suspicious disposition, more love and trustfulness; in place of instability, more poise and confidence.
