Testimonies of Healing
I have received such wonderful benefit from Christian Science that I should like in gratitude to tell something of what it has done for me. I was cleaning the kitchen table and rubbing it very vigorously, when suddenly I struck my arm on something sharp, and on investigating I discovered two ends of cotton thread protruding from my wrist.
Several years ago I was healed of a growth in my breast through Christian Science. I had had an operation, but had afterwards been worse, mentally and physically, than before.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude for Christian Science. I should like especially to give out a word of hope and encouragement to those who may be struggling with what seems to be a stubborn form of error, whether of sin, sickness, sorrow, or lack, with a condition seemingly difficult to heal.
Many years ago I stood by the bedside of a little son of four years of age. He had just finished his usual evening prayer.
When Christian Science came to me in 1908, I had been ill for nearly sixteen years and in bed for the final six. The last specialist consulted, when asked to give his candid opinion as to future prospects, held out no hope of my being anything but a practically bedridden invalid for the rest of my days.
On the tenth of August, 1921, I was taken ill with dangerous blood poisoning, the result of a wound on my leg, according to the physicians' diagnosis. I was taken to the hospital to be operated upon immediately.
I am very grateful that I have been led to the study of Christian Science. It has changed my outlook on life, showing me that the promises of the Bible are fulfilled now for us.
In expressing my gratitude for Christian Science, I feel I can echo Job's thought, "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. " I had been suffering for many months from an organic disease and had consulted three physicians, each of whom told me that an operation was the only means of relief.
Not having found in the so-called orthodox church the practical religion which I craved, and having no firm foundation upon which to stand, I turned to Christian Science some fifteen years ago, as it seemed to offer that which I sought. I desired above all things a religious teaching for my young children; and truly in Christian Science this need has been adequately met.
For the past fifteen years the truth as revealed to us in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, has been such a guide and sustaining power to me that I would be found wanting did I not give expression through our periodicals to the gratitude I feel for this divine influence. While attending the public schools, and shortly after uniting with an orthodox church, I witnessed the healing of an intimate friend through Christian Science treatment ; and out of curiosity I subsequently began reading the Christian Science Sentinel, and soon afterwards the textbook.
