Testimonies of Healing

I feel I can never be grateful enough for having been healed of the morbid habit of cigarette smoking, which I indulged for fifteen years, during nine of which I smoked at the rate of fifty cigarettes a day. Having neglected nourishing food I was brought down in health to a living skeleton and in March, 1918, I thought I could not possibly live another week, I felt so ill and weak.

Through the study and demonstration of Christian Science, some of the ills, which belief in heredity handed down as family traditions, have in my experience gradually come to the surface, only to be destroyed. Especially severe was the experience of shingles.

I have so often been encouraged by the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel that I feel it a duty as well as a joy to send one regarding the wonderful healing of my young daughter. During the summer vacation, while running in the garden, she fell and injured her knee severely.

My reasons for gratitude to God for Christian Science are numerous and continuously present, for through Christian Science I have learned how to think and how to live. I can and do recommend Christian Science as practical, everyday religion for practical, everyday men and women.

The fruits of our labor, as expressed through the testimonies given in the Christian Science periodicals, have often inspired me to renewed and more persistent effort, and it is in deep appreciation of this valuable help received that I give this testimony. Several years' study of Christian Science has resulted in the overcoming of sick headaches, sore throats, and many minor illnesses, but one healing seems to stand out as the time when mere faith yielded to spiritual understanding.

I wish to say that the healing of my mother is correct as stated. I had never known her to be well, and a great deal of the time she was in such a condition that she had to stay in bed.

From my childhood I had known little but sickness and doctors. Finally a painful condition of ulcers and catarrhal trouble from which I had suffered for five years became very serious and I was warned of a malignant growth if I neglected treatment.

I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. For ten years I had been troubled with neuritis of left arm also of left leg, the average shrinkage of the latter being, from foot to body, one and one half inches, the ankle becoming so weak that at times it was kept in adhesive cast.

Thinking that my experience, when first really depending upon Christian Science, might be of some help to a beginner I am writing the following. I had been treated in Christian Science successfully many times by my aunt, but finally she gave me to understand that the time had come for me to work for myself.

I had my first healing in Christian Science in February of 1914, and since then have had many proofs of the great truth that all pain is purely mental, caused by a belief in an existence apart from God. I was healed of severe nausea during pregnancy, and when I was later delivered of twins it was almost entirely without pain.
