Testimonies of Healing
I first became interested in Christian Science through my instantaneous healing from appendicitis. Later, an unusually severe cold on my lungs was entirely cleared away after two treatments from the same practitioner.
When I was told that the understanding of Christian Science would prevent fatigue, I thought this a wonderful statement, for getting tired, physically and mentally, has always seemed so inevitable that to be able to go on and on, after having seemingly reached the limit of physical endurance, and to do it with ease, would certainly be the greatest thing in the world. I was called upon somewhat unexpectedly in March, 1911, to go into the Wasatch mountains in Utah to map the Maple creek watershed, a region about three and a half by four miles, and to measure the depth of snow at several hundred places to ascertain the true average amount of it over the entire district.
It is now five years since Christian Science found me a physical wreck, longing to die. I had been under the care of several physicians, and latterly a specialist, when a friend invited me to a Christian Science service.
It is perhaps three years ago that I heard of Christian Science, through two sisters in Germany who had found health and happiness in it. I could not at first believe the good tidings, as I had repeatedly and vainly sought for comfort in reading the Bible in days of adversity.
With great joy I write of my healing by Christian Science, after I had been an invalid ten years, when "a friend in need" came to prove that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and that nothing is impossible with God. I had many of the best physicians, of different schools, who did all they could to relieve my suffering, which was intense, and to cure me.
I have long felt a desire to express my sincere gratitude for the many and great blessings that Christian Science has brought to me. It has met my needs in every direction for more than twelve years, though I did not take up its study for a physical ill, but that I might be of some help to a loved one who accepted it in an hour of great need.
Christian Science means a great deal to me. I am very grateful for the good it has already brought, but even more so for its never-ending promise.
It is with a heart filled to overflowing with gratitude that I am prompted to write these lines, testifying to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. I suffered for five years with stomach and bowel troubles, and in consequence thereof with extreme nervousness.
In deepest gratitude to God, and also to Mrs. Eddy, for the many blessings which have come to me through Christian Science, I give the following testimony.
It is now nearly four years since I began the study of Christian Science, and during that time my feet have been led out of slippery ways and planted on the sure rock of Truth, while the comforting assurance that none can pluck us out of God's hand has become a fact to me. From the old sense of fear (and I was afraid of everything,—sickness, sin, and a host of nameless horrors) I stand free and rejoice, because through the teachings of Christian Science I have learned that God is good, and that I cannot be separated from Him.
