Testimonies of Healing
Words can hardly express how thankful I am for Christian Science. For ten years I was a sufferer from insomnia, and during this period, for weeks at a time, I was unable to sleep.
With a heart overflowing with gratitude I desire to testify to the efficacy of the spiritual method of healing as taught by Christ Jesus and given to us in this day by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
About eight years ago, I was given up by my physician, who could do no more for me, as he said medicine could do me no good, and that time might bring me relief. He gave up the case, but I had such severe attacks, that my beloved ones called in another physician, who examined me and told me that I had a tumor of three years growth.
About eight years ago I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of a disease for which the doctor recommended an operation and offered scarcely any hope of relief without it. I had made arrangements to go to the hospital for treatment, but through the earnest appeal of a lady who was not a Christian Scientist herself, but who knew of the efficacy of Christian Science healing in her own family, I concluded to postpone my visit and read Science and Health for a few days at least.
The fact that little children are coming under the sweet influences of Christian Science, is very lovely to me, and my mind often travels backward over my childhood days, recalling many instances where, could I have been taught my true relationship to God, I would undoubtedly have been saved much mental and physical suffering. My parents were church members and brought their family up according to their light.
In 1894 I began the study of Christian Science. At that time I was greatly in need of its healing truth.
Looking back over fourteen years, since the uplifting and healing truth of Christian Science came to me, and noting the footsteps which have shown me more and more of the compass of this Science of Life, certain experiences which have especially lighted my pathway and given me a higher understanding of God and our relation to Him, stand out in consciousness as helpful landmarks. One such experience came years ago in a Wednesday evening meeting in a western city where I was at that time living.
I was led into Christian Science five years ago through the healing of a sister, and the sweet proof of the leading of Truth and its effects upon her, both spiritual and physical, helped to bring us out of the labyrinths of mortal mind. To-day we rejoice to know that the world is progressing in the understanding of this blessed truth which is constantly being made manifest in the life and teachings of our beloved Leader, the Rev.
My progress out of sense into Soul, has been very slow yet I am thankful to know that an invisible hand has been guiding me on, and still on, to a truer and larger living This has often been the entire opposite of a flowery path way, but there have been some triumphs which have cheered the way. I want to tell others of what Truth did for me in a time of accident last May.
In Science and Health, page 322, we read, "It is easier to desire truth than to rid one's self of error," and on page 380, we also read, "Truth is always the victor. " I am glad to say that I have demonstrated the truth of these two statements which, I believe, can be done with any of the statements of truth contained in Science and Health by Mrs.
