Testimonies of Healing
A little over four years ago Christian Science found me in a hopeless condition. I had taken a course to be a trained nurse, and as a result of too heavy lifting I had hurt myself.
As I studied one of our Lesson-Sermons it brought back to me the conviction of truth which was unfolded through my healing. I had been a sick child, and later, for seven years, an invalid woman.
Ever since I can remember I have been striving to "be good. " I am grateful to Christian Science for enabling me to read my Bible more understandingly.
In the fall of 1887 I first heard the name of Christian Science. I was asked to sit in the room with a patient while a Scientist talked with her, and while sitting at the feet of the patient and holding her hand, I heard these words, which came to me as light into a dark room, "We are commanded to have but one God, and God is Life, now if there is but one God, there can be but one Life, and the warfare consists in overcoming the false sense of a life and power apart from God.
Several years ago I had a boil form under one knee. I had suffered from the same cause two years previous and was in a hospital two weeks with it.
About five years ago I became interested in Christian Science, and I feel it to be my duty, as well as a blessed privilege, to give my testimony to the healing and preventing of sin, as well as sickness. At that time I was in terrible financial straits.
A story is told of a gentleman who owned a garden in which he took great pride. One day he brought to his gardener a clipping from a choice grape-vine, asking him to plant it and give it special attention.
It is about four years since this blessed truth found us most wretched and miserable, but now all is changed, for I have proved that God is All in all. When I was married, over three years ago, I came to live with my husband's folks, who had found this blessed truth a short time before.
" He opened to us the Scriptures". As my eye fell upon these words recently, my thought turned from the two whom Jesus had helped as they walked toward Emmaus, to the present day, and as I realized how our Leader has opened the Scriptures to us, my heart was filled with a deeper sense of gratitude than ever, and I wish to express it by adding my testimony to that of the multitude of those who have found health, and a true concept of God and man through Mrs.
When I first heard of Christian Science, it did not appeal to me as anything that I wanted, for at that time I was a member of an orthodox church and thought I was perfectly satisfied with my God. From a child I loved to study the Bible and to know more about God, but I thought it was all right for any one to be sick, and that it must be God's will.
