It is eight years since I first began reading Science and Health. At that time I was suffering from indigestion, severe sick headaches, which I had had from childhood, rheumatism, dropsy, and deafness of many years' standing. I had been told by kind physicians that there was not much to hope for, but I found that while they may have been honest in their views, they were mistaken. In less than three months I was relieved from indigestion, sick headaches, rheumatism, and dropsy. The deafness yielded slowly but surely. I had carried a trumpet for ten or fifteen years, and had said that if I could hear as well without it as with it I would be content, but I find I cannot be satisfied until perfection is gained, and by patiently following the rules laid down in the blessed Bible and our text-book, I will realize perfect hearing. I have had a few treatments for deafness, but all the other ailments disappeared by simply studying Science and Health. For many years I read the Bible from a sense of duty; now I read it from love for the truth, and each day a little more light is revealed.
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God, the giver of every good and every perfect gift; and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her patience, love, and faithfulness in pointing the way for us. I cannot close without expressing my love and gratitude to the many friends who have said so many kind words to help me along.
