Testimonies of Healing

THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE was my first healing in Christian Science. As a young teen, I needed to change the direction of my life.

I attended Christian Science Sunday School as a child, then had an intermittent connection with Christian Science for about thirty years, until 1995. At that time I discovered a deep appreciation of the Bible and Science and Health through a system of meditation that found me repeating, among other inspired passages, hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (see p.

On My Way to Work one day I slipped on some black ice and fell very hard on my back. I immediately affirmed that there are no accidents in God's kingdom and that God's child had not been, and never could be, hurt.

One Hot Summer Day in 1970, I came home from work early because I was having chest pains and difficulty breathing. Soon I also lost consciousness, and woke up in a hospital.

It is time for me to put on record my gratitude for Mary Baker Eddy, for Christian Science practitioners, and for the Christian Science periodicals, which bring us the inspired Word that heals. I fell away from the practice of Christian Science during my college years, succumbing to the temptations of drinking and drugs.

People can suffer from a poor self-image and not even know it! I did, and when I finally turned to God in prayer, I was led to Christian Science and gained a new view of myself based on God as creator and man as His flawless likeness. This changed my life.

While Looking through a camera one day, I realized I could not focus. I thought something was wrong with my expensive camera! My vision had always been exceptional, and it took a few days to realize that the problem was with one of my eyes.

For A Time, I was experiencing feelings of deep depression. I turned to the dictionary and looked up the word depression.

It Was Midwinter —a cold early-July morning—a good morning for spending at one's desk. As an octogenarian living alone, I cherish such periods of uninterrupted study of Christian Science, and I have needed neither medical attention nor pharmaceutics.

My Brother, Sister , and I were raised as Christian Scientists, and we witnessed and experienced many quick and complete healings as we grew up. These included broken bones set and healed within hours, so-called childhood diseases gone overnight, bee stings proved harmless, and sprains overcome.
