Testimonies of Healing
After he received an acknowledgment that his contribution would be used in the Sentinel, my eight-year-old son exclaimed, "Mom, why don't you send something in, too?" His enthusiasm was wonderful, and it convinced me that it was time for me to express my gratitude (in writing) for the healings my family and I have had. My husband comes from a large family, and we have frequent get-togethers.
About eleven years ago, I woke one morning feeling a pain in my breast, and when I put my hand to it I discovered a lump there. I was absolutely paralysed with fear, and I found it difficult to think clearly.
All during the week after the passing of Princess Diana, I had been feeling sad. I was surprised at how much the event had affected me.
I have had many healings through Christian Science and have given testimony to them at the Wednesday evening meeting in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Now I think I should tell in writing about my first two demonstrations of God's healing power, and how I happened to be introduced to this Christian system of healing through prayer.
I can walk , run, swim, climb mountains, and play tennis again, and I am so grateful for this freedom of activity. Through my reliance on Christian Science for healing, my body is functioning normally and my spirit is soaring! The substance of my being is spiritual.
The Holy Bible , and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, have been constant companions and sources of inspiration, comfort, and healing throughout my life. After I became a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, my first committee appointment was that of usher outside the Sunday School room door.
One evening after work my husband and I decided not to fix dinner at home, but to go out to eat. We had no more than left, apparently, when a neighbor was driving by our house and noticed a bit of smoke coming out of our roof.
About twenty-five years, ago, not long after buying our first house, I became bedridden. Other family members were painting the house and doing all the chores, besides taking care of me.
Words are inadequate to express how grateful I am for Christian Science. I am a third-generation Christian Scientist, raised in a home where this teaching was our way of life.
In Science and Health ( p. xi ), Mary Baker Eddy speaks of "a divine influence ever present in human consciousness"—the Christ.
