
Testimonies of Healing
I learned about Christian Science in 1932. At that time I was ill with a number of disorders.
Many years ago, when I had been studying Christian Science just a short time and my husband did not share my interest, I found myself facing these questions: Should I pursue this study and church attendance on my own? Or should I continue social activities that seemed to conflict with both church attendance and my standard of thinking? The answer came, as if spoken, when I was en route to a Wednesday testimony meeting at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist ( Isa. 30:21 ): "This is the way, walk ye in it.
After returning from a hiking trip in the High Sierra, I became extremely ill with symptoms of food poisoning. I recognized at once that this was a mistaken belief about my true identity, because actually God is the only creator and He causes only good.
At one time I suffered sharp pains on the right side of my abdomen. When I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer, I was asked to ponder this statement of Mrs.
A few years ago several medical specialists diagnosed my condition as incurable arthritis. For me, this meant inability to work and loss of a job.
At the age of five I was troubled with pain in one of my legs. When it persisted and I began to limp, my mother sought help from a physician.
I am humbly grateful for Christian Science and for the many avenues of learning that Mary Baker Eddy, as Leader of this healing movement, provided for her fellowmen, so that we all may apprehend the spiritual laws of God. My introduction to this Science was simple—I picked up a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel at a local self-service laundry in the late 1960's.
Through the years, since my childhood healing of typhoid pneumonia, I've had many healings of physical, mental, and financial difficulties. I've enjoyed health and happiness, and a beautiful marriage to one who, like me, is a lifelong Christian Scientist.
During my sophomore year in college, I was introduced to Christian Science by my husband-to-be. I then had the privilege of attending Sunday School at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for eight months until I turned twenty.
After many years of illness and numerous operations, I was told by the medical authorities that because of my physical condition it would not be possible for me to undergo further surgery, so they could do nothing more. About this time my devoted husband passed on, which left me feeling quite alone.
