Testimonies of Healing

At one time a growth appeared on the side of my head. In my treatment I argued the unreality of this condition.

A few years ago I developed a very uncomfortable throat infection. I was unable to swallow any solid food and could take liquid only in small spoonfuls.

I myself did little praying until after the responsibilities of marriage and children came into my life—although I am grateful for having attended the Christian Science Sunday School until I was twenty, and for having parents who helped me through prayer when difficulties arose. From early childhood my children were taught to pray for themselves.

I have been a student of Christian Science for thirty years. During the Second World War, through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, I was afforded the most wonderful protection on numerous occasions.

While visiting relatives at the age of five I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School for just four months. What I learned during this short time laid a strong foundation and convinced me I could not be satisfied with the teachings of any other denomination.

I was eight years old when I was healed of scarlet fever through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner. When the doctors arrived to place our home under quarantine, they found no vestige of the disease.

When I was a girl, a dear aunt introduced me to Christian Science. She invited me to spend part of my summer vacation with her and her daughter, and every morning, right after breakfast, we read part of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly.

During many years Christian Science has guided, sustained, comforted, and healed me. There have been setbacks and personal failures; but as a practitioner lovingly counseled me at one point, when I was extremely discouraged and even wondering if I should give up church membership, "Divine Science is the Comforter; let it comfort you.

Before I found Christian Science, my life was influenced and directed by a concept of God as both good and evil— a God who gave peace and comfort to only a select few. I believed that man was caught in a conflict between bad and good and that even when he wanted to do right, he often failed.

For over forty years I have enjoyed the protecting, healing, and guiding power of the Christ, Truth, as revealed in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and my gratitude is unbounded.
