Testimonies of Healing

Before I met the man who was to become my husband, I was under the impression that Christian Scientists were "a bunch of kooks who did not believe in doctors. " In fact, if I had known my husband was a Christian Scientist when I met him, I would never have dated him in the first place.

Over fifty years ago, my mother enrolled me in the Sunday School of The Mother Church. At that time we had come to live in a home with a Christian Science practitioner.

Christian Science has taught me and my family to expect nothing but good from an ever-present and loving God. It has been fifteen years since I submitted my last testimony, but never a day goes by that I do not reflect with gratitude on the many blessings that this Science of spiritual healing has brought us.

I attended Christian Science Sunday School during my childhood until the age of twenty, and I had the privilege of growing up in a home where this teaching was lived and practiced. With the help of Science, shyness, teen-age problems, difficult relationships, and the choice of a profession were beautifully resolved.

While I was working as a secretary for a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship I developed a painful condition in my hands. This was a very busy time, and it was most inconvenient that this problem interfered with my typing.

I had been studying Christian Science less than a year when I found myself with symptoms of pneumonia. This condition had occurred in my life three times before.

At one time, my twenty-year-old son traveled to India and Pakistan on a comprehensive sightseeing tour. He regularly wrote cheerful letters that gave me no cause for concern.

As a lifelong Christian Scientist I am most grateful for the many healings I have received through complete reliance on God as my only physician. A little over a year ago I was quickly healed of what appeared to be a broken bone.

Ever since I can remember, my eyes were extremely sensitive to bright sunlight. Sunglasses were of little help, and I just plain avoided such things as being on a lake or driving a car on bright days.

My first child was only a week old when I noticed that her neck was stiff and her head was drawn to one side. I began to consciously try to understand more of the spiritual identity of the child as God's perfect idea—the child of our only Father-Mother God.
