My first healing in Christian Science occurred when I was a senior in high school. I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School for as long as I could remember but never studied Science seriously, nor had I tried to use it. I was somewhat skeptical about the ability of Christian Science to heal, even though my Sunday School teachers had always told me that it does, and I had heard about many healings. In my heart I wanted to believe that this Science could heal, so I decided to give it an honest try.
A hangnail sore had become infected— an opportunity for me to find out for myself if Christian Science really did work. I started studying the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly every day. Sometimes I would spend all morning reading, and then the rest of the day, as I went about my business, I would think about what I had read.
For about a week the infection continued to spread until most of the finger below the first joint was affected. I kept on studying and praying, and my understanding of God and of my relationship to Him improved until I reached a point of firm conviction in the truth. The infection stopped spreading, and in two days the finger was completely healed. Christian Science had worked. I was overjoyed, and a few months later I joined The Mother Church.
