Poems

Wednesday evening giving

From the December 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A testimony's like a paradox:
Though short, concise, its truths are very great,
Through helping others, helps the one who talks,
Outside of time, but never out of date.
Not personal with names and details gross,
Still it is individual, sincere;
Not rambling foolishly and not verbose,
Yet it's complete and says the Christ is here.
Not spoken to rebuke, reproach, affright,
It does rebuke the lie that Christ can't heal.
Though not self-righteous, yet its truths are right—
Unrehearsed, direct: the Word made real.

Not given so that others may applaud,
Still it's a gift. It is a gift to God.
