Deprivation? No!

From the December 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If you are feeling deprived of something—whether a job, money, housing, love, family, health, sympathy—then hear this: God cannot be deprived of manifesting His care for you. On the contrary, divine Love has provided you with unlimited spiritual good of every kind, for in reality you are God's expression. And your understanding and acceptance of this truth can bring you a sense of fulfillment and completeness that will objectify itself in any or all of these aspects of daily life. I am one of thousands of Christian Scientists who have had such proof.

The material picture is often one of deprivation: races deprived of self expression; countries deprived of productivity and self-determination; families deprived of good will and love; individuals deprived of health and self-fulfillment. But what is doing the depriving? Accusations fly right and left, the have-nots blaming or envying the haves, and such attitudes preventing both from realizing the God-given right of all peoples to peace, to concord and abundance.

The master Christian, though living a simple life, did not feel deprived. Understanding God's infinitude and knowing it couldn't really be suppressed, Jesus was able to demonstrate that the kingdom of heaven is already within man. His modern-day disciple Mrs. Eddy also recognized that God's omnipresence and munificence are eternal facts to be proved right now. "It is ignorance and false belief, based on a material sense of things," she declares, "which hide spiritual beauty and goodness. Understanding this, Paul said: 'Neither death, nor life, . . . nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God.'" Our Leader further states, "This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind nor life result in death."Science and Health, p. 304; As God's complete expression, man forever reflects His love, joy, goodness, intelligence.
