Prayer—the greatest power on earth!

From the December 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Do we pray for ourselves every day? We should. It is the most important activity in our day. We must allow nothing to interfere with the time set aside for this sacred work.

The busier the day, the more important it is. Praying scientifically endows us with intelligence and energy; it prevents fatigue and retracing of steps. I remember hearing these words attributed to an important religious leader: "I am so busy now that if I did not spend two or three hours each day in prayer, I could not get through the day."

To regard prayer as a chore, as difficult or of doubtful benefit, is a wrong concept of it. Even the prayer of deep, soul-searching repentance brings with it a sweet sense of release from depression and guilt.
