For me, reading the Christian Science periodicals has always been comparable to receiving letters from a loved one that are filled with encouragement, admonition, correction, and inspiration. These timely messages have so benefited me that I am happy to add my testimony of God's healing power.
When I was about ten, some friends and I climbed through the frame of a large house under construction. I fell from the roof to the concrete basement floor, four stories below. The contractor, the father of one of my playmates, picked me up and was about to take me to the hospital; but at the urging of my sister, he took me to my home nearby. I was unconscious. My mother, a devoted Christian Scientist, was away at the time. She was called, and she immediately began to pray for me while she drove home. I regained consciousness before she arrived, about fifteen minutes later, and within several hours I was outside again, actively playing with my friends. Except for a tiny scratch under one arm, which quickly disappeared, there was no indication of injury on my body. The neighbors were deeply impressed by this. When the wife of the man who had carried me home saw me outside later that afternoon, she said to Mother, "It's a miracle, just like in the Bible." I also remember being impatient with all the attention I was given, because it seemed normal in our home to trust in God's love and express freedom.
In Science and Health (p. 393): "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." Throughout the years, Mother drew our attention to those statements, and it is obvious that an understanding of these truths accomplished the healing after I fell.
