Testimonies of Healing
For the priceless gift of Christian Science, given to us through the consecration and selflessness of our revered Leader, to whom we all are forever indebted, it is difficult to find words befitting my sense of gratitude. At a time when the outlook on life seemed very dark to me, a copy of the Christian Science textbook by Mrs.
It is with sincere and heartfelt thanksgiving for Christian Science that I relate some of the experiences in our home in which the application of this scientific law of God has restored health, harmony, and supply, corrected faults of character, and guided us in the straight and narrow way of Truth over a period of more than thirty years. At the time of our introduction to this Science my husband and I were living on a farm in western Canada, with five young children to support, and facing a problem common to many in the 1930's.
The passing on of my mother some years ago led me to a very earnest search for the truth. At that time I went from one church to another, listening intently to the services, always hoping to catch a gleam of real comfort.
Christian Science came to our family over twenty-six years ago. At that time my mother was healed of a stomach condition which had been pronounced incurable by three leading physicians in our city.
I am sincerely and deeply grateful to God, and I am grateful for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. It is a constant source of joy to me that I can play even a small part in our great Cause.
Although I was reared in a wonderful home where religious ideals were important (my father was a minister), as an adult I began to feel the need for different answers to my questions about God and about what life really is. A new business associate of my husband was the first Christian Scientist we had ever met.
I shall always be grateful that Christian Science came into my home while I was still a little girl. My father was a minister, and the Bible was deeply loved in our home, but its practical healing value remained undiscovered until a copy of the Christian Science textbook by Mrs.
When a young man, I was a moderate user of tobacco, but soon after I was through school I became a heavy smoker. I was engaged in a business where my time was my own, and there was no restraint on how much I smoked.
My mother was reared in a Christian home, but as she grew to young womanhood she found that she could not accept religion as it had been presented to her. After her marriage she became concerned with what she would do when she had children and could give them no religious teaching.
A Sunday School teacher I once had pointed out to his class the importance of giving God the credit for the unfoldment of good in our human affairs. I was making many demonstrations of the truths of Christian Science at the time, but my gratitude had not been the equivalent of those wonderful proofs.
