Testimonies of Healing
Words seem inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for Mrs. Eddy, to whose inspired thought was revealed the scientific significance of Christ Jesus' words and works and to whose selfless devotion and love for mankind we owe the Christian Science textbook, as well as her other writings, and the establishment of the Christian Science movement.
I am grateful to have had early instruction in a Christian Science Sunday School. This has meant a great deal to me in establishing freedom from fear of disease, and it has protected me from many common material beliefs that are generally accepted.
From childhood I always sought for a God that I could understand. The explanations given to me by my parents and teachers did not satisfy me, and it was not till I grew up that I heard of Christian Science through an aunt who had begun to study it.
Two summers ago, during a dry spell, I decided to apply a dust allayant on our driveway. I secured this material at a dealer's, and two men lifted the bag into the rear compartment of my car.
Sometime ago I could hardly use my hands at all and only with much agony. They were so swollen and out of shape that I could not write; in fact, my entire body seemed to be out of joint because of arthritis.
So many blessings have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science that I hardly know where or how to begin to express my deep and abiding gratitude. This overflowing gratitude is, of itself, one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Our family came into Science over thirty years ago when my father was healed of Hodgkin's disease. His case was diagnosed and pronounced incurable by a well-known specialist and by the medical faculty of a prominent university in the Middle West.
As I began preparing this testimony, the question, "What am I most grateful for?" presented itself. With great joy, the answer came, "For the absolute certainty that God is; that life, substance, and intelligence are spiritual, not material; that man in Science is indestructible and eternal.
I could never say enough to describe how happy and grateful I am to have learned of the existence of Christian Science and how grateful I am to the friend who put in my hands the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, during the First World War, though she herself was not a Christian Scientist.
About three years ago, my husband and I were enjoying a short vacation in central Florida, writing and fishing. One day we put our boat into a creek, as usual.
