Testimonies of Healing
I should like to tell of the first healing I had in Science. It has been a poignant reminder that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" ( Ps.
Sometime ago I became deeply involved in a business problem which caused great dismay and threatened business failure. I realized the basic cause of this frustration was disobedience and lack of self-discipline, yet all mortal efforts to extricate myself seemed only to plunge me deeper into the mire of fearful thinking, which finally resulted in a nervous collapse.
When Christian Science was first presented to me many years ago, I was unprepared to accept its teachings; and after a cursory perusal of the textbook by Mrs. Eddy, which had been kindly loaned me, I returned it with the thought that I would be unable to gain the necessary faith.
[Original in French] About nine years ago I was living in a very busy section of town; and because my apartment was in the middle of things, it was also very convenient to my work and to the theater and to literary meetings. But I had been interested in Christian Science for about ten years, and my former diversions lost much of their attraction for me.
For the past several years great inspiration and healings have come to my mother and me through the work of a consecrated practitioner, who roused both of us to a more active and dedicated study and application of Christian Science. In particular I wish to write of a healing of my mother which took place in 1962.
My last testimony appeared in the Sentinel in March, 1957. And it is time I submitted another! This time I should like to express gratitude first for a healing of arthritis.
" The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate" ( Ps. 34:22 ).
My gratitude for Christian Science is unbounded. I was reared in it, but, not realizing its true value, I began backsliding during my college years.
I attended a Christian Science Sunday School but was not a very receptive pupil. When I reached the upper age limit, I was not much interested in Science because I really had no problems to solve at the time, and my life was very comfortable and happy.
" A cup of cold water" was the way I described Christian Science when it was first presented to me. I am grateful to testify to the healing power of this religion, and my gratitude is unbounded for the help I have received from practitioners and through my own study and application of the truth.
