Testimonies of Healing

Speaking of divine Science, our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p. 558 ), "When you look it fairly in the face, you can heal by its means, and it has for you a light above the sun, for God 'is the light thereof.

I should like to relate an experience I had many years ago. One day my mother asked me to visit a friend with her.

Christian Science came into our home thirty years ago at a time when my father had been given up by the doctors. Exclusively through Christian Science treatment he was healed of what was diagnosed by many physicians as an incurable disease.

I wish to make public acknowledgment of the many blessings I have received from the study of Christian Science. I took up this study many years ago for a loved one for whom materia medica offered no aid.

Never a day goes by without my feeling a deep sense of gratitude for our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all she has given to mankind through her teachings and writings. I am also most grateful for our Way-shower, Christ Jesus.

I first knew of Christian Science when I witnessed an instantaneous healing which my mother had. Although she acknowledged the healing, she did not take up this wonderful Science.

As a very young child I was taught a prayer which included the words: "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. " This frightened me and contributed largely to a terrifying fear of death.

I had always held strong views about the evils of drink, having seen its cruel effects in lonely homes far out in the Australian bush as well as in towns; and I had seen brilliant careers among my artist friends ruined by the so-called gay Bohemian life. Yet, after several years in which I had enjoyed many healings and blessings from Christian Science, I was still unable to subscribe to its high standard of total abstinence and therefore unable to become a church member.

Mrs. Eddy has said on page vii of the Preface to Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.

Much too long have I delayed the writing of this testimony of the great good and the blessings that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science as given to the world by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
