Testimonies of Healing

As a very young child I was taught a prayer which included the words: "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. " This frightened me and contributed largely to a terrifying fear of death.

I had always held strong views about the evils of drink, having seen its cruel effects in lonely homes far out in the Australian bush as well as in towns; and I had seen brilliant careers among my artist friends ruined by the so-called gay Bohemian life. Yet, after several years in which I had enjoyed many healings and blessings from Christian Science, I was still unable to subscribe to its high standard of total abstinence and therefore unable to become a church member.

Mrs. Eddy has said on page vii of the Preface to Science and Health, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.

Much too long have I delayed the writing of this testimony of the great good and the blessings that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science as given to the world by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p. 583 ) our inspired Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, defines Christ as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.

Shortly after the end of the recent war I suffered a complicated fracture of my left femur when a truck in which I was riding turned over and landed on me. At an evacuation hospital, a day or two later, physicians tried to set the leg.

" Remember that mankind must sooner or later, either by suffering or by Science, be convinced of the error that is to be overcome. " So states Mary Baker Eddy on page 240 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Some time ago at a church service in English we sang Hymn No. 412 in the Christian Science Hymnal, an old Irish melody.

Though many times I have expressed gratitude verbally for having found Christian Science over twenty years ago, I have been lax in writing my testimony, and I hope I may make some amends by this testimony. Christian Science is indeed the pearl of great price in our family, for through its teachings physical, mental, and financial problems have been solved as we have relied faithfully, consistently, and radically on Truth.
