Testimonies of Healing
It has for some time been a growing conviction that I should add my mite to the already vast accumulation of evidence of the efficacy of Christian Science. In the autumn of 1898 it was first brought to my notice, and although I had the advantage of attending a Christian Science church and carefully noting the services, yet through prejudice and a desire to contest every proposition set forth in Mrs.
In the spring of 1898 I first heard of Christian Science, and the following August I began the study of its textbook, Science and Health. So eagerly did I imbibe its saving truths, that, without thinking of physical help for myself, I was healed of severe stomach, liver, and kidney trouble, after having read for about three months.
It is with a heart full of happiness and peace, and of love to God and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I gratefully add my testimony to the thousands of others which have already been given by those who have been raised up from a life of suffering and sorrow and sin into the glorious light of the understanding of the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of our Father-Mother God.
Were it not for the blessings that Christian Science has brought to me, I feel that I should still be the sufferer that I was for years instead of the healthy, happy man I am. For four years I doctored with the best physicians in different cities for a stomach trouble, getting no relief, only growing worse.
To me, the most beautiful words in the English language are Christian Science. Ten years ago I did not know their significance and had seldom heard them.
Ever since I was a small child I wanted to be a trained nurse and bent every effort in that direction. When I had finished my college studies, where I made a specialty of physical science, I was yet too young to enter the hospital, so I went into a physician's dispensary to gain practice in pharmacy, and to find out if I were really fitted for the desired work.
With a heart full of gratitude do I testify to the healing and spiritual uplifting received through Christian Science. In 1894 I was living in Houston, Texas, and conducting a dressmaking establishment.
I desire to tell what Christian Science has done for me through the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings.
It has been something over a year since God, with "His great love wherewith he loved us," answered my cry from out the depths of physical suffering and mental despair by guiding me to a Christian Science service. There, for the first time, I heard the sweet assurance that God does not will that man should suffer.
My heart is indeed filled with gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. It is now about thirteen months since I began treatments.
