Testimonies of Healing

For over twenty years my time was largely spent roving about the Pacific coast states from camp to camp, mostly as prospector and miner. I had no faith in "the substance of things hoped for.

It is now over six years since I first heard of Christian Science. Surely, there never was a home that needed Truth any more than did ours.

I wish to record as briefly as possible the reasons which led me to turn to Christian Science for physical healing, and also the reasons for my acceptance of its spiritual teachings. Five years ago last winter I had reached "man's extremity," having failed to receive any lasting benefit from the different schools of medicine, a surgical operation, strict diet, three months' sojourn in each of two sanitariums, and changes of climate extending from the coast of Maine to the mountains of Colorado.

I wish to tell with love and gratitude of some of the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. Six years ago I was asked to try it.

I want to express my gratitude to God, to Mrs. Eddy, and to the dear ones here who have so lovingly helped me to know the truth that makes us free.

I had been nearly two years in recovering from a long sickness, and convalescence was so slow that the time seemed endless. I could hardly imagine myself again walking, running, or doing anything naturally.

About a year and a half ago my little son, five years old, was taken with an abscess, and after almost three weeks of suffering he underwent an operation in which the flesh was stripped from the bone, from the thigh nearly to the knee, and a tube inserted. After he had spent ten days in the hospital I was informed that at least two more operations were necessary, as three open sores had formed, that the bone was in an advanced stage of decay, and that even with all this they had little hope of saving the limb, as he had become so reduced in bodily strength that even his living was doubtful, from a human standpoint.

Four years ago Christian Science came to me in direct answer to my prayer for light to lead me out of the darkness of despair. At that time a friend, whom I had not seen for three years, called upon me, and in the course of conversation suggested that I make a study of Christian Science; adding that she believed I would find in it a refuge and a help in every hour of need.

I can scarcely find words adequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science and what it is to me. It has lifted me out of the depths.

Three years ago I was healed, through Christian Science, of bronchial asthma, sore throat, and continual colds. Previous to this healing, I spent most of my time in the house and in bed.
