Testimonies of Healing
I have been a student of Christian Science for many years. It has been my only physician, counselor, comforter, and guide.
At one time, a blemish that had appeared on one of my index fingers became an open sore and caused noticeable swelling. Initially I prayed about the situation on my own, but when my entire hand became swollen, I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me.
This author felt separate from the joy that the Christmas season brings. When she began to ponder the meaning of Christmas in a new light, she experienced healing.
Having been a Christian Scientist since I was thirteen years old, I have been accustomed to the idea of God being supreme. A few years ago, as I was reading the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly in a time of need, this concept of supremacy asserted itself in my thought.
Last year at Christmastime, I awoke one morning feeling very ill with flu-like symptoms. As the day progressed, though, it was filled with wonderful expressions of love, gratitude, and healing for my family.
During the summer of 2020, my boyfriend and I swam around Mercer Island, Washington, in one- to two-mile segments. It was a joyful endeavor as we spent many sunny days together and progressed in feeling more and more comfortable in the water.
For some time, I would wake up at night with sharp pains in my lower abdomen, a phenomenon that worried me more and more. My regular readings of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which is the textbook of Christian Science, comforted me, but the pain seemed to persist and even get worse.
I am profoundly grateful to relate a healing of grief that came only five days after my first husband passed. At first, I had felt deeply shocked and confused.
This year, my mother, daughter, and I are reading together Mary Baker Eddy’s primary text on Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, cover to cover, sharing our inspiration via Zoom. It is a lovely reminder of the healing I had a couple of decades ago.
One warm summer day at our home in the desert, we were preparing for a swimming party for my son. But first, according to our usual pattern, the children and I sat down and read the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly.
