Testimonies of Healing
During the summer of 2020, my boyfriend and I swam around Mercer Island, Washington, in one- to two-mile segments. It was a joyful endeavor as we spent many sunny days together and progressed in feeling more and more comfortable in the water.
For some time, I would wake up at night with sharp pains in my lower abdomen, a phenomenon that worried me more and more. My regular readings of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which is the textbook of Christian Science, comforted me, but the pain seemed to persist and even get worse.
I am profoundly grateful to relate a healing of grief that came only five days after my first husband passed. At first, I had felt deeply shocked and confused.
This year, my mother, daughter, and I are reading together Mary Baker Eddy’s primary text on Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, cover to cover, sharing our inspiration via Zoom. It is a lovely reminder of the healing I had a couple of decades ago.
One warm summer day at our home in the desert, we were preparing for a swimming party for my son. But first, according to our usual pattern, the children and I sat down and read the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly.
I live in a tropical climate, and in my teens I regularly suffered from migraine headaches, especially during the rainy season. This had a negative effect on my life, especially during school and when I was doing intellectual work.
In November 2019, aggressive flu-like symptoms such as I’d never before experienced came upon me suddenly. It was a struggle not to become overwhelmed by the severity of the problem.
Early in November of 2016 I began to experience intestinal pain. I immediately prayed for myself, knowing that this apparent condition was a lie about my spiritual selfhood, which is ever, always perfect.
As the author grasped that each of God’s children is and ever has been coexistent with his divine Parent, she started to view motherhood in a whole new way.
I was attending a two-week educational session, which was mostly about the Bible, but also included classes on other topics, activities, and meeting many new people. It was the last day, and I had expected it to be the best day of the whole session.
