Testimonies of Healing
I am very grateful for God's great goodness "to the children of men" in sending Christ Jesus and later Mary Baker Eddy to help and guide us in the upward way out of matter into the realities of being. In 1911, when my mother's family of five children were small, she was reading a popular book of the time and was aroused by the thought that, as a mother with a large family, she wished she could be as interested in the Bible as she was in the novel.
The blessings which have come to me through Christian Science have been numerous. However, there are two healings I should particularly like to relate.
It is with a deep and sincere sense of gratitude to God that I write this testimony. About thirty years ago Christian Science was presented to me, and I began attending church services.
I am writing this testimony in gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, hoping it may help someone in need. My parents became interested in this Science when I was about two years of age, through the healing of a very close friend.
This testimony is given with a loving desire to glorify God and to encourage other seekers for the light. When I was almost ready to graduate from a midwestern high school, misfortune and poverty befell our home and caused my health to fail.
I offer this testimony in deepest gratitude and in the hope of helping someone else who is searching for Truth. I first heard about Christian Science in Portland, Oregon, in 1910.
I have received so much help through my study and application of Christian Science that I feel the time has come for me to share some of my experiences with the readers of our periodicals. Shortly after the First World War my husband and I found ourselves in a strange city with most of our savings gone and very little income.
On page 197 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, these words are written: "A minutely described disease costs many a man his earthly days of comfort. What a price for human knowledge!" Before I became interested in Christian Science, a number of my fellow workers had undergone medical treatment for appendicitis.
Sometimes human beings have to be driven through ill-health or other misfortunes to seek help in God. When they have at last found the pearl of great price, they wonder how they could live without it.
" O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him" ( Ps. 34:8 ).
