The Boston Traveller has some good...

From the January 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Boston Traveller has some good words for "the great and successful work" we are inaugurating:—

The rapid growth of the body of Christian Scientists of Boston, under the leadership and teaching of Rev. Mary B. G. Eddy, the pastor of the church and the president of the Metaphysical College, is a suggestive fact in social progress. They opened meetings two years since, in the parlors of Mrs. Eddy's residence. These soon became overcrowded. Then they resorted to the Hawthorne Rooms, where, until two weeks since, meetings have been held. This room proving inadequate to increasing demands, the Christian Scientists have now secured Chickering Hall, where, until a church is built, the services will continue to be held.

Now the question is asked, What are these people doing? What is Christian Science? Mrs. Eddy, in her books and lectures, explains it as simply a return to the plain and simple principles of the teachings of Christ. Mr. Tyndall, the distinguished scientist, says that the moment we admit the power of Mind over matter we admit the power of God in nature. On this Truth rests the faith of Christian Science. Mind, Spirit, is eternal, and all-powerful; but matter is transient, is subject to illusions. The conditions are temporal; the Life is eternal.
