Testimonies of Healing

From the March 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is now seven months since my wonderful healing in Christian Science. For years I had suffered with heart disease, a trouble which appeared when I was twenty-one years old. I was then in Germany and immediately turned to the best physicians in Berlin. They all told me the same thing: that it was a clear case of heart disease and that no one could heal me. There was no medicine prescribed, because the physicians declared that there was none for this trouble. I was told to give up working if I wished to live a few years longer, and was forbidden to drink coffee, etc., and what seemed hard for me was that I was told to eat very little,—to take nothing but milk and light food.

It seemed unbearable to me not to work nor eat. Night and day it seemed as if my heart was being stabbed. In this condition I went to America, remained in New York for three months, and then went to California with a friend. He had a little understanding of Christian Science, and during our journey told me of its effective work. After our arrival in San Francisco, we went to a Scientist. I understood but very little English, and was therefore sent to a practitioner who is German. When we were admitted, she greeted us in a motherly, kind way. She asked a few questions, and then spoke the truth to us. We remained three hours. It seemed to me as if I had lost the sense of self while listening to the powerful declarations of Truth. When we left her I walked beside my friend with a sense of great exhilaration. I could not speak, it seemed like a great upheaval in me. The old thought of dying was gone,a. new thought had entered my consciousness, which brought to me a great calm. I went to bed and slept very well.

When I awoke it seemed as if I had awakened from a dream, for I felt free and a contentment had come to me which I had never before known. My first impulse was to go to the lady and thank her, and yet my German disposition said to wait and test it.
