"HIS GOODS ARE IN PEACE"

From the June 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Stand porter at the door of thought."—Science and Health, p. 392.

What time the strong man, armed from head to heel
With shield and helm and sword of glittering steel,
Keepeth his house; afar his foes are fought,
For he stands porter at the door of thought.

As Christ did keep the temple of his heart
A pure white shrine aloft, alone, apart,
Where Spirit dwelt forever loved, besought;
So stand thou porter at the door of thought.

'Tis Love that paints unseen on bank and briar
Each bud and bell, that ever points us higher,
Past rainbow clouds that have His colors caught,
To stars; still porters at the doors of thought.

Who learns to love, if his be love indeed,
Hath gained a guerdon for his mighty need
And strenuous striving, as his soul hath sought:
He hath stood porter at the door of thought.
