Testimonies of Healing

One day a dear Scientist discovered this quotation carved...

From the June 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One day a dear Scientist discovered this quotation carved upon my writing desk, "Look thee unto thine heart and write," and remarked, "We do not do that enough." I caught the rebuke and hence this testimony.

I was one who was fettered by fear and utter despair until I had reached an extremity which was God's opportunity, for after weeks and months of gradual breaking came the final collapse, and I found myself in a dreadful state of nervous prostration; the mental condition was such that I could not read even my correspondence, or endure the presence of my children but for a very few minutes at a time. My kind physician had me placed in a hospital, but I constantly grew worse. I was then brought back to my home, where I was subjected to massage, electricity, and drugs, but to no avail, and I was left to the awful contemplation of what seemed the inevitable end, until in hopeless despair I thought of Christian Science, and felt that it must be my only chance.

After obtaining a willing consent from my dear husband and dismissing my physician, who was very gracious and most kind in his attitude towards Christian Science, his last words as he left my room being "You will get well," I called for a Scientist, and after my first treatment, which was given absently, I arose from my bed perfectly healed. It was on a Sunday about two o'clock, and the morning had been the worst I had ever experienced. I arose and dressed alone and went about as usual the rest of the day, and that night I slept without awakening once. The insomnia had wielded such tortures, my nights had become a horrible dread, for drugs had failed in their supposed power to soothe, but Love, the great liberator, spoke of peace, truth, life, that could not be lost. I at once procured a copy of Science and Health, and in demonstration of the truths therein contained, have had speedy relief from many forms of error, both of sin and its consequent disease, thus proving in the destruction of sickness and sin that "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
